From beginner to grade 8

I had the pleasure of being taught by Renee for 7 Years from beginner level, all the way to grade 8. She coached me through all the ABRSM piano exams, grade 5 theory and then taught me singing too. I really looked forward to my weekly lessons with Renée because she has a unique way of building a good pupil/teacher relationship of mutual respect and joy which is infectuous and filters through to the music and the love of it.                 Jaini Hu

Passionate and inspiring.

My son, Jay was having lessons with an international concert pianist for a few years, but wasn’t enjoying it and couldn’t be inspired to take his grade 2 exam. Luckily we met Renée who knew how to bring back the love of playing by allowing him the freedom of choice to exploring musical genres. This really inspired and motivated him to practise as well as develop his own musical taste. A few years later he asked to do exams again and did very well because it was his choice.               Jenny Smith

Nurturing Approach

My daughter, Robyn doesn’t respond well to pressure so she really appreciated Renée’s relaxed approach, allowing her to follow her own interests rather than a rigid exam syllabus. Because of the gentle and nurturing beginning, Robyn has now taken exams and enthusiastically progressed to grade 5. She has even decided to pursue music as a career at college.

Ukulele strums

I had piano lesson with Renée for many years when the ukulele bug bit. She helped me learn a few chords and got me playing with her children in their folk band. It was a lot of fun.

Singing lessons

I was very shy and self-conscious when I started singing lessons with Renée, but she put me at ease by creating a nurturing environment where I felt safe to express myself.

Piano lessons

I started piano lessons 3 years ago with Renée and when she moved away I couldn’t bear getting a new teacher so she agreed to teach me via video calls. I am SO happy because she allows me to source my own music and play what I want.

fiddle for fun

I really enjoyed playing the violin in Renée’s folk group. The new genre was often challenging, but fun, especially the concerts Renée organised.

Recorder lessons

Renée taught us to play the recorder in a church group when we were little. We loved her and as a result loved playing. Now we’re all grown up and we still look forward to her visits when she’s in the area.
