About me
Hi! I'm Renée Hume
I've been teaching music for over 20 years, first in schools and then privately from home. My goal is to make music lessons enjoyable so that pupils are motivated to practise and inspired to make progress. Over the years I have assisted pupils in passing their ABRSM exams (GRADE 1-8) and helped many rekindle the joy of playing after their previous teachers who were either too strict or rigid in their approach, almost killed the love of music.
Why destroy it when you can enjoy it? I believe that everyone can experience the joy of making music whatever level they’re working at. I like using a variety of musical genres to facilitate learning and giving pupils the freedom of choice when choosing pieces.
As well as teaching individually, I find it very rewarding bringing pupils together to experience the joy of making music in groups: duets, choirs and folk music ensembles are some of the things I love doing because pupils derive much joy from performing together.
Choirs and Folk Groups

My love for singing started in secondary school when I started singing lessons and was chosen to sing in the regional youth choir. At university I sang in various choirs and persued vocal studies. After graduating I went on to work with various children’s choirs, teach music in schools and coach soloists for musicals.

My love for folk music has grown as a result of my own children learning to play the accordion, violin and ukulele. I like to recruit other students to join in the fun and play for various concerts.
